What is flockUp and who is it for?
flockUp is a web application that helps community builders gather their members by sending them event invites and timely text blasts as SMS to improve turnout to community events. SMS had the highest open rate of any channel in 2024!
The ideal flockUp community:
- is run by a handful of people who need to coordinate lots of others
- wants to reach community members without them checking another platform
- has a somewhat regular meeting cadence
- aims to keep members in the loop by texting them
A Quick Overview
Communities are comprised of members who receive text message invites and announcements for your community. They’ll get a welcome text message and have to explicitly opt into text messaging to start receiving invites.
An admin can create multiple “flocks” – subgroups to organize a community. A flock could represent an interest group, a geography, or anything in between. Admins can invite and assign “flock hosts” to manage a particular flock.
Within a flock, hosts can create events and text blasts. These are sent as text messages to members from a flockUp number.
On the nest plan, messages are sent from a single number. To RSVP, members will click on a link and indicate whether they’re coming to an event or not.
On the fly and soar plans, every community has a dedicated phone number. Members can click a link to update their RSVP, but they can also text back to accept or decline an invitation. Read more about text back rsvps here.
